The resort village of Capitola, shown here in the Winter, lies at the mouth of Soquel Creek in Santa Cruz County, California. The old wharf, a fishing pier and a facility for hiring fishing boats, includes  a restaurant serving excellent seafood. The community surrounding the beach is crowded in the Summer and is one of Northern California's most popular villages, often being compared to Carmel. Beyond the stone jetty in the background is an excellent surfing break for beginners. Still further can be seen New Brighton Beach above which, on the cliffs, is a camp site tucked away in the redwoods.
