Tuscany is the center of the vast Chianti wine growing region of Italy. The Tuscany region produces an astonishing 57 million gallons of wine a year from the Sangiovese grapes (and others for some Chianti blends). A visit to one of the wine cellars is a must for this region, accompanied by a taste of the Chianti Classico wine (look for the Black Rooster sign at the vineyard). With over 5000 vintners of Chianti, it is a huge industry in Italy. These bottles I found aging in a Tuscan cellar included one that dated back to the beginning of last century. |
