Up

Monterey Bay from Capitola to Moss Landing forms an unbroken stretch of more than 15 miles of wide sand beach, ideal for walking, sunbathing, and splashing in the cold North Pacific waters. In the summer, gray, blue, and humpback whales  pass through the Bay on their way south. All the year seals, sea lions, sea otters, and dolphins are frequently seen in the Bay. Seldom seen, but undoubtedly there, are the major predators of the ocean including the Orca and the great white shark. In a astonishing scene a few years ago, just north of the Bay, a killer whale attacked, and killed, a great white, witnessed by a boatload of amazed whale-watchers.
