Up

Sunsets have traditionally drawn us to stand and watch. The day's end is celebrated in coastal locations worldwide, and frequently provides a spectacle of color such as the one here over Monterey Bay. Three observers can be seen in the bottom right of the picture. Six hours before, this the same scene was enacted in Maine, Cape Cod, and Key West. In another three hours the sun will bury itself in the deep waters off the Hawaiian Islands. And the next day we will observe the sun set under a different palette.
