The River Soar attracts many British and overseas tourists because they can wander along the river and literally sit where Britain's famous landscape artist John Constable planted his easel. Nothing much has changed in nearly 200 years. In fact the river is quieter now than when Constable painted boat building sites, haywains, barges, and a thriving mill industry. But the Soar is idyllic and well worth a visit in its own right. A path wends its way along the river bank for miles, offering cups of tea at intervals so allowing a true "English afternoon walk". |
