What looks like land on the horizon is a fog bank beginning its evening flow onto the shore of the southern Monterey Bay. The fog stream is driven in towards Moss Landing's Elkhorn Slough, which is visible evidence of an enormously deep offshore underwater canyon controlling much of the local weather on the Central Coast.
